Y2K in 2012..????
You might be quiet familiar with this term " Y2K". Yeah, the very same Year 2000 Problem or Millennium Bug. I easily recollect, it was during my schooldays when the Y2K threat spreaded. Medias was fully focused on Y2K Problem making it the prime and complicated issue.( Some rumours also spread like the world is going to end in 2000, at that time I was also bit tensed ).
Luckily nothing complicated happened. It was jut a Software problem of data storage situations which resulted from the practice of abbreviating a four-digit year to two digits.
12 years after that issue, 2012 is heading up with another Y2K or Global Blackout 2012 or Solar Storm. I made a case study ( quite authentic as the Sources are from NASA ) and just listing some points for your knowledge :
SOLAR STORM :
The general consensus among general astronomers (and certainly solar astronomers) is that this coming Solar maximum (2012 but possibly later into 2012-2013) will be the most violent in 100 years.
This information, which came from researchers sponsored by NASA and the National Science Foundation, was first discovered by NASA’s THEMIS satellites. These holes or breaches mean that a greater number of solar particles, about 20 times more plasma particles, can penetrate the magnetosphere, reaching our planet.
A global catastrophe threatens the world population in 2012, but not in the form of global warming leading to natural disasters, but in fact, a solar storm- essentially plasma balls spewing from the surface of the sun which can distort the Earth's magnetic field, which could destroy the tens of thousands of expensive and hard-to-build transformers in power grids worldwide, which in turn, would cause major blackouts in advanced high-tech countries
MOST AFFECTED AREAS :
Expected to fall victim to the solar flares are devices that depend on radio waves like GPS systems, radios and cell phones.Complete Communication system will be damaged.Satellites will crash back to Earth like meteors.
Hospitals, with their life-sustaining support systems.With no power, food cannot be processed or delivered. Water cannot be pumped from reservoirs into homes.But eventually, millions may die from hunger and thirst.
ITS SEVERITY :
Global Blackout would be ten times bigger than Hurricane Katrina because we're talking about the loss of all electricity and satellite activities. We could be going about a 100 years back in the past.
"We predict the next solar cycle will be 30 to 50 percent stronger than the last cycle," said Mausumi Dikpati, a solar scientist with the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado, yesterday in a telephone briefing with reporters.
The last cycle peaked in 2001.
A new technique enabled the scientists to better predict the severity of the next cycle. The technique, called helioseismology, allows researchers to "see" inside the sun by tracing sound waves reverberating inside the sun—creating a picture of the interior like ultrasound creates a picture of an unborn baby.
They are caused by the ionised solar particles becoming imprisoned by Earth’s magnetic field, exciting the gases in the atmosphere and emitting bursts of energy in the form of light.
However, these particles can also cause magnetic storms, which in extreme cases have been known to disrupt satellites and electricity grids.
In 1989, a CME was held responsible for leaving six million people in Quebec, Canada, without power.Last month one of the largest storms our star can produce was detected.Known as an X1.9 flare, it was one of the biggest seen in years.The flare was so powerful that it disrupted communications systems on earth a short time later.

If the Solar Storm occurs, the world will remain in darkness for the entire 24 hours a day and there would be absolutely no communication with the outside world.
And it would be something like Ctrl+X-100 years......
